Back in the day when Edge Design was first starting out, one of the first big design projects that Steve worked on was for Wickes; a newly established building supplies company that came over from the US. And this is how the story goes…
“A brand called Wickes came to me wanting something new and revolutionary. The DIY market wasn’t as big back then as it is now, so they asked me to come up with some ideas that would stimulate the customers and sell more products. Everyone assumes that when someone comes in to buy nails or screws that they know what they’re doing, that’s not always the case. So one of the first things we did for them was to create the Wickes Good Ideas Leaflets – a simple set of home improvements guidelines on anything from ‘how to build a shed’ to ‘how to install central heating.’ Along with the leaflets, we created overhead gondola panels for each product. They were a great success and we went on to create 3,000 different pieces of own-brand packaging and aisle displays. While creating all this I became an expert in building and fixing all things!!
